Diwali Lakshmi Puja 2026
The main Lakshmi Puja falls on Sunday 8 November 2026, on Kartik Amavasya, and is performed during pradosh kaal — the window just after sunset, roughly 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm in Mumbai. The exact window shifts with your local sunset and your family's panchang, so we confirm it for your area rather than quoting one national time.
Because every family wants the same two-hour window on the same evening, Diwali is the one booking in the year where being early genuinely matters. We schedule Diwali-week pujas from September. What the puja involves
- Ganesh puja first — as in every ceremony, obstacles are cleared before Lakshmi is invoked.
- Kalash sthapana and the establishing of the puja space on a clean, raised chowki.
- Lakshmi invocation with the Shri Suktam and Lakshmi Ashtakam.
- Kubera and the account books — for business families, the chopda pujan or ledger worship, still widely observed in Mumbai's trading communities.
- Aarti, diya lighting and prasad.
The convention for placement: as you look at the two murtis, Ganesha on the left and Lakshmi on the right, both raised, facing the family, with Lakshmi never behind Ganesha. Which way the mandir and family should face is covered in our direction guide.
Beyond Diwali
Mahalaxmi Puja is not only a Diwali ceremony. Families book it for Friday Lakshmi vrat, for Vaibhav Lakshmi vrat completion, during Navratri, at a shop or office opening, and on Akshaya Tritiya. In Maharashtra, many households also observe Mahalaxmi (Gauri) puja during Bhadrapada — tell us your family's tradition and we will match the pujari accordingly.
The murti at the centre of it
If you are bringing home a new murti for the puja, we make them ourselves — our workshop sculpts the Mahalaxmi temple shrine, with Mahakali and Mahasaraswati beside her under a silver-worked canopy, in hand-painted marble dust and pure gold and silver plating. Some families book the puja and the murti together, and have the pujari perform the installation as part of the ceremony. Mention it when you book and we will arrange both.
